#1 Lounge on the beaches of Nerja

The resort town of Nerja boasts 15 beaches, a couple of which are sure to make it into your personal top beaches on the Mediterranean coast. Most of the local beaches are covered with dark sand, less common are pebbles.

Start your vacation with some special beaches:

Balcony of Europa is a scenic spot overlooking the Mediterranean. It's a great place to enjoy the sunrise in the morning but in the evening it's overrun by tourists and fattened local cats.

#2 Wander through the caves of Cuevas de Nerja

The majestic cave of Cuevas de Nerja was accidentally discovered by curious boys 60 years ago. Scientists found out that as far back as 25 thousand years B.C., ancient people lived here, in an area of a thousand typical one-room dwellings.

Now available for visits about a third of the cave. The Tourist or Lower Gallery of Cuevas de Nerja is divided into several rooms with names that are more astonishing than any other:

In the center of the Hall of Catastrophes rises a column 32 meters high, one of the tallest stalagmites in the world. And in the Ballet Hall, a natural amphitheater with stunning acoustics, the Festival Cueva de Nerja, the International Festival of Music and Dance, has been held since 1960. It also hosts opera concerts with Montserrat Caballé, Joaquín Cortés, and José Carreras.

What is the Hall of Ghosts famous for?

Check it out for yourself. And get ready to endlessly click your camera shutter, because you will want to capture it:

#3 Check out the Milk River in Ronda

Snow-white Ronda stretches at dizzying heights above the El Tajo Gorge. It is absolutely unclear how more than two thousand years ago the builders managed to erect the city at such a height.

But you'll save the highlights for Puento Nuevo. It's a three-arch New Bridge that resembles a fortress cut into the rocks. In the 1930s it was home to a prison from which you could only escape into the abyss.

Milk River Gwadalevin

It is breathtaking to watch from 120 meters, as the Milk River Gwadalevin runs along the bottom of the gorge. You won't find any acidic beaches, but there are a couple of excellent wineries in Ronda where guests won't leave without a tasting.
